It’s summer. Maybe not according to the calendar, but in my book June = summer. It’s the season of bare feet and flip-flops; my feet are happy because I hate shoes. And we can all wear white now that Memorial Day is past, so it doesn’t get much more summer than that. {I disobey that fashion rule but it’s ingrained in my Southern brain, thanks to my dear Granmama.}
Even though we’re otherwise “done” with our homeschool year, we’ll keep chugging along through math this summer. In our house, math is the subject that always seems to get shoved to the wayside and/or procrastinated upon — and I’ll be the first to admit that it’s mostly because of me. In fact, I already have hives trying to decide my math plan for next year.
Although my kids do better with a bit of structure, that never works out as I hope in the summer months: Kathryn is constantly going to and fro with vacations and summer weeks with her dad, church activities stop during the summer months, and the kids get antsy on days when the weather doesn’t allow for outside play. I refuse to be a cruise director, planning every moment of their days; they need to learn to entertain themselves — and that doesn’t mean with mindless television and electronics.
Homeschool Buyers Co-op has some great possibilities for the summer that don’t make me twitchy. Note: iHomeschool Network is compensating me to share these no-strings-attached free offers with you; see disclosure page.
I’m seriously excited about these free summer offers!
Again, there are no strings attached; it’s simply a great time to try many of the programs you’ve probably already heard about — and they’re FREE for the summer!
Just a few I’m eager to try:
- MathHelp.com might be a good answer to my math dilemma in the coming year.
- Discovery Streaming has great educational videos that make television a worthwhile past-time on a rainy or too-hot day.
- I love the thought of letting Scout practice reading over the summer with personalized content for her based on interests and skill level with myON reader.
