When Ashley announced that she was writing an e-book about father-daughter dates, I jumped at the chance to review it. After all, there just so happens to be a father and two daughters right here in my house, and my husband already makes a point of taking our girls on dates (like the annual Father-Daughter Valentine’s Dance). This e-book even had frugal in the title, which is right up Ken’s alley.
I gave this to Ken and asked him to take a look at it and tell me what he (as the father) thought about it. We both totally agree with the premise of Ashley’s book:
A father should hold his daughter’s heart until the day she is ready to give it away to “the one” with whom she will spend the rest of her life. A great way to build this special Father-Daughter relationship is through Father-Daughter Dates.
Ken believes the ideas in here apply to a wide range of ages, and he has already jotted down a few favorites to do with each of the girls, who are currently 11 and 17 years of age. We’ve found that it doesn’t matter so much what he does with the girls, as long as they know he’s all in; no checking the iPhone, just listening and spending time together. (This goes for mother-daughter dates, too!) However, sometimes we run out of ideas, and that’s where 51 Frugal Father-Daughter Dates comes in handy!
Ken thought Lindsey (17) might get a kick out of “Playing Dress-Up” {because he can use some style, he said}, and he knows Kathryn (11) would love to “Share Your Honey-Do List.” {because she’s always been his little helper}. One of the book’s suggestions is to take your daughters with you to run errands; Ken already does this with the girls, and although it seems like something they wouldn’t be excited about, they both truly seem to enjoy that time with him. It’s all about the importance of one-on-one time.
I won’t give away all the ideas, but one in particular that got Ken excited was “Creating a Life-Sized Game.” I’m pretty sure he’s already planning what he could build, and where. I won’t be shocked to see a giant chess game pop up in my back yard!
One of the things Ken loved about this e-book is the way it’s organized by how much each “date” costs: Free, $5 or less, $10 or less, $20 or less, and $50 or less. This is a super-practical way to quickly find an activity that will work for any occasion or budget.
At just $2.99, 51 Frugal Father-Daughter Dates would make a fabulous Father’s Day gift!
