My get-fit tip of the week?
Don’t get bitten by a mysteriously creepy critter.
There ya’ go. Consider yourself warned.
While at my in-laws house in Sunday, I suddenly noticed a very itchy/burning bite just below my hip. Whatever it was bit through two layers of clothing (or crawled into my clothes, which I’m trying not to think about!). I get weird reactions even from mosquito bites, so I didn’t think too much of it…
…until the next day, when I noticed the lymph nodes nearby were swollen and the skin in the area was very red. Long story short, by Tuesday morning, the redness and swelling had continued to spread from the bite into my groin area.ย I ended up seeing a doctor and getting a whole bunch of antibiotics.
I didn’t see the thing that bit me, but because my Vietnamese mother-in-law’s brother just moved here last week, and my story sounds much more interesting if a weird spider hitched a ride in his suitcase all the way from Vietnam. (Note: just did a google search on “Vietnamese spiders.” I don’t recommend it. {shudder})
The bummer of it was that because of the location of the bite, and the advice to “avoid friction in the area,” I couldn’t do my exercise walks this week. I’ve been running a low-grade fever all week, too. Stupid spider. But on the up side, I’m eagerly anticipating the super-human powers that Peter Parker received when a freaky spider bit him. And then I’ll change my blog name to Spider Woman!
I hope your fitness week was better than mine.
How’d you do? Inspire me, people!!!

I’m so sorry you were bitten by a spider! Yuck, hope you are feeling tip top in no time. Next week we {my husband, 10 ds, 8 ds, and myself} are running a 5k to raise funds for foster care in our state. We did our practice run this morning!
Yuck! I’m not squeamish about spiders but some of those spiders were truly disgusting! Hope you feel better soon x
So you got curious and did the google search, huh? ๐
This is why I don’t jog.
Or go outside in general.
Nature wants to kill us.
Ha ha!!! But the thing is, I got bitten while standing in my in-law’s kitchen!
giggling….
Oh my! Wow…I’ve never heard of a reaction like that before. I’m glad to hear you are mending well.
Jamie, thank you for your caution โ otherwise they may just have googled Vietnamese spiders โ I hate spiders! I have this theory that they weren’t part of God’s original creation design. They just don’t seem very heavenly, they trap their victims, they have venom, they have all those legs and fangs and โ well โ I think they came after the Fall โ not before it. Just a theory – anyway I’m glad you got it treated – Laska the love Kitty and I had an encounter with a brown recluse not too long ago. I heart reading you… Read more ยป
Ewww! Not fun! I hope the antibiotics do their job quickly.
Ack!!! Do you still get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it? I’m glad to hear that it wasn’t any worse because that seems bad enough.
Freaking spiders, scares us and then expect we don’t freak out…
We freak out, and they bite ๐ Just few days ago a spider run through my desk. It was at midnight and i totally didn’t expected it so you can imagine my reaction…brrrr
Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. I pray that it does not derail your efforts to keep going, when you are well enough. I bought a step bench yesterday and am now thinking I am certainly too out of shape to use it! But, I have plans to get there, one step at a time!
Ohh I really hate spiders or any crawling insects. I’m so sorry to hear that. Hope you feeling much better now. Have a rest and hope you get well soon. ๐
