Life lately: July highlights
“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.”
~ Benjamin Franklin
Let’s take a moment to appreciate my junk-no-more kitchen drawer. It’s a work of art, if I do say so myself. I’ve been on a major clean-out and organization kick: linen closet, bookcases, utility room, and more. I always get on a kick like this before the new school year begins!
happenings & homeschooling
I’m still teaching (and loving!) my fitness class for active seniors at the local recreation center, and now I’m also working at a nearby gym. I’m working the front desk because the hours work with everything else I have going on. At some point, I plan to do personal training there as well, after I’ve had time to settle into my new routine.
We signed the kids up for day camp a few non-consecutive weeks this summer. They love it because they get to swim every day, plus go crabbing and fishing and other such things during the week. On non-camp weeks, we’ve played at the beach, they’ve built ALL THE THINGS with Legos, and I’ve taken them to my fitness class a few times. The ladies there (mostly all grandmothers and a few great-grandmothers) adore them.
I’ve been homeschool planning and I’m pretty much done other than some scheduling. Yay! We plan to start back at the end of August.
My big de-clutter included a homeschool purge. I still have a few things left in my used curriculum sale: Teaching Textbooks Grade 6; Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Botany; A Child’s Geography book with CD; Notgrass America the Beautiful US History set; and a few other items. See curriculum clean-out post for details and prices if interested.
what we’ve been reading
My faves this month:
Evening Class by Maeve Binchy;
At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen;
Come Rain or Come Shine by Jan Karon.
Kathryn (16):
The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo; I loved it, too!
Real life confession: I probably won’t do read-alouds for 8 year old Jem until we start our homeschooling routine.
