Simplifying my closet with Stitch Fix

A white and turquoise Stitch Fix box by the front door makes for a seriously happy mail day. And happened to coordinate just perfectly with the giant tea mug in my hand.

Note: post contains referral links, which means I’ll get credit to buy more clothes if you schedule a fix through my links.

simplifying with stitch fix

When you’re married to a photographer and he decides to set up a portable studio in the living room to play around with some lighting techniques, and you just so happen to have gotten fun new clothes the day before, it seems silly not to humor your husband and play model since you need outfit photos for a blog post anyway!

This time (my second fix) I kept EVERYTHING they sent!

>> Addison Striped Knit Cardigan  &  Haiden Distressed Straight Leg Jean

Addison Striped Knit Cardigan from 41HawthornOUTFIT DETAILS :: Addison striped cardigan from 41Hawthorn | Haiden distressed jeans Kut from the Kloth | shoes Gloriee canvas flats by Madden Girl (similar) | tank from Target (would’ve been better with a belt, but you get the idea.)

Since I’d pinned this exact cardigan, my stylist included it in my fix. Of course I like how cute it is, but I also love that it’s so lightweight. Perfect for spring here in Georgia on those days I can never figure how to dress because the temperature fluctuates so much. Or in summer when it’s 100 degrees outside but every store cranks the air conditioning up to arctic temperature. Definite keeper.

The jeans fit great. When my first fix didn’t quite fit the way I like, I went in and tweaked my profile settings. This fix was much better. I like the distressed-but-not-too-distressed look here, and the dark wash. That big cuff is stitched, but if I wanted, I could snip the tiny stitch to wear them long. Super comfy, too, with a bit of stretch. Keeper.

>> Edmond Chevron Print Henley Shirt

StitchFix Edmond Chevron Print Henley Shirt by Pixley

Another exact item my stylist sent from my style pinboard. I adored it straight out of the box. It’s the softest shirt EVER and feels like wearing nothing in the best way possible. The button detail on the sleeves is nice and the colors are my favorites!

Also: my dog likes me.

>> Shay Maxi Dress

StitchFix Shay maxi dress by Gilli

Another piece I adore! This dress fits PERFECTLY, the material is soft and delightful, and I love the pattern of the skirt. It’s the exact right length, which has been hard for me to find in a maxi dress.

It’s cute with a cropped denim jacket, too.

I hate elastic waists, but this is stretchy-gathered and way more comfortable. The top is made of jersey-type material, like a soft t-shirt. Because of how it’s made, there is no gaping or wandering bra straps. Definite bonus.

Also: my dog likes me. {She’d have been in EVERY photo if I’d let her.}

my dog Piper likes meOUTFIT DETAILS :: dress by Gilli | denim jacket by Jolt (purchased at Marshall’s) | shoes by Vera Wang (Kohl’s) | earrings: purchased in Peru | necklace: from Africa (similar)

>> Edna V-Neck Top

Stitch Fix Edna V-Neck TopOUTFIT DETAILS :: top by Skies are Blue | shorts from Ann Taylor

This top is a size too big. I wouldn’t have kept it, except that the 25% discount for keeping all 5 items makes it more economical to keep everything rather than send this back. I didn’t like it at all when I first tried it on, but after experimenting, I think it’s cute with denim shorts; it’s a lightweight material that’ll be great for those summer days when it’s entirely too hot to wear clothes but we do it anyway.

Update: I purposely didn’t follow laundering instructions and put this top in the dryer, which shrunk it to exactly the right fit. {Might not want to try that at home, though, friends!}

. . . . .

A few thoughts: Stitch Fix isn’t the most frugal option for clothes shopping but it’s fun. More than that, it’s helping me narrow down what I truly do or don’t like, to identify which items in my closet are worth keeping and which ones aren’t. I’m becoming ruthless in weeding out so-so clothes. If I don’t feel good in it, I’m getting rid of it.

I’d rather have a minimalist but happy-making wardrobe than a closet full of unexciting.

Although I don’t have the budget for a monthly fix, I plan to do this a few times a year, maybe once a season. In the meantime, I’ll be rocking the clothes from this fix and donating anything in my closet that doesn’t measure up.

Wow! Super cute outfits!

Nicole

I love every. single. thing. in your box this time! Especially that last shirt – though I’m not as big on showing my arms now – but if it’s hot enough I will!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

I love the maxi on you. How tall are you? I’m 5’10” and wondering if it would work for me.
