I’m so not a fashion blogger, but I keep seeing all these fun Stitch Fix posts and I wanted to give it a try, too. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a personal styling service by mail. You fill out a style profile online, with your sizes and preferences and such, and a stylist chooses 5 items she thinks you’ll like and sends them — like magic! — in the mail. You have three days to try the items on, pair ’em up with things you already own, and send back whatever you don’t want to keep in a pre-paid envelope.
Even the inside of the box is pretty!
Opening it felt a little like Christmas because I had no idea what would be inside. But of course, not exactly like Christmas because I’d have to pay for whatever I kept. 😉
The box contents — or the aftermath of a teenager getting ready to go anywhere.
The outfit styling cards are awesome.
Analisse Anorak Jacket – from Pixley. {Also: I need a hair cut.}
This anorak jacket was SO close to making the cut because I loved the style and color, but I didn’t feel the fabric would hold up to crazy dog’s toenails (still haven’t broken her jumping habit), and at $88 I wasn’t willing to risk it.
The other items I didn’t keep and why:
- Distressed boyfriend jean – from Kut from the Kloth:
Loved them. Which is why I have more than one pair of nearly identical jeans already in my closet. And they were a teensy bit big. - Printed shift dress – from Pink Martini:
Interesting pattern and nice fabric, but shorter than I usually wear and did a weird bunchy thing in the midsection whenever I moved. No, thanks. - Polka dot blouse – from Pixley:
The fabric felt lovely and I loved the color and pattern, but the fit wasn’t ideal.
The fee for this service is $20, which you pay whether or not you keep any of the items. However, if you do keep anything, that $20 goes toward your purchase.
The winner:
Again: not a fashion blogger.
In fact, I’m wearing fuzzy slippers in these photos. Keepin’ it real, y’all.
I decided to keep this cobalt blue Edmondo studded split-back tank blouse. My version of dressing up is usually something I can put with jeans, and this is perfect for that. Plus, I’ll be able to show off my new huge arm muscles (that’s a little joke there) when the weather warms.
Once I decided what I’d keep and what I’d be sending back, I went to my style profile and updated what I did or didn’t like about each item, and how it fit. Every “fix” is suppose to get better because your stylist gets to know you better the more she styles you.

So, to sum up: I like this service. I’ll do it again. You can schedule a fix at regular intervals, when you know you have a special event coming up, or just when you feel like it. And the thought of never venturing into a store dressing room with those horridly unflattering mirrors and light bulbs is rather dreamy.

I love the blue top – definitely my style. I actually have a similar blue silk that I need to sew up.
Thank you, it’s a fun top. Now the weather just needs to warm up!
So, I love your site. : ) Love the homeschooling and parenting especially. Then I saw this post…what fun! I have signed up but your link didn’t work. Any other way for you to get credit? I’m probably not going to order my first fix until end Feb/March.
Thank you, Kristine! And thanks for pointing that out about the link; I’d thrown an extra character in there but it’s all fixed now!! 🙂
Greetings my friend and my sister in Christ, My daughter and I get a Stitch Fix every 3 to 4 months, and we love it. We’re like two little girls in a Disney Princess shop! So much fun to do this with my 15 year old. Afterwards, we doll up and head out to town for a much needed mommy/daughter date. We get lots of compliments, and we make sure we share the words, it’s “Stitch Fix”! Have fun with your next fitting,, and believe you me, it does get better and better as your stylist gets to know what… Read more »
