What summer looks like at our house

Summertime.

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
-John Lubbock

This summer, we’ve been leaving a whole lot of time for doing nothing.

Our favorite kinds of “nothing” include:

…making s’mores, just because we can. And because the kids couldn’t remember if they’d ever had s’mores before. {Their faces show how much they loved them!}

…lazing in the air conditioned house during the hottest part of the day.

…picking blueberries right off our very own bushes. {yum!}

…jumping on the trampoline. Because it’s fun, and because it’s a great way to burn off excess energy. I overcame my trampolines-are-dangerous policy because experienced moms of high energy kids said it was one of the best things for them, and so far that’s proving true.

…taking advantage of the coolness of swimming pools whenever possible.

…and spending the evenings on hobbies like guitar-playing and crocheting.

As for me, I’ve been a reading maniac. I’m spending as much time as possible sitting on the porch because it’s my best place for thinking, and because I love watching my hummingbirds. I stretched my brain by taking an online Cherokee language classes. Lately I’ve been putting the finishing touches on our upcoming homeschool year, and I can’t wait to share about it!

What does your summer look like?

Our summers look mainly the same as yours. Other than we pick our neighbor’s berry bushes (or go to a pick your own farm) and we don’t own a trampoline. We do however have our own teeter totter and it’s loads of fun to watch all the kids play on it. 🙂 I’m still attempting, not saying how many years I’ve been attempting, to read and crochet at the same time 😉

It looks like a lovely summer! S’mores put a smile on everyones face! 🙂 And those blueberries are gorgeous. I can only imagine that are so good!

I become a reading maniac in summer, too. One of my favorite memories of childhood summers was getting stacks of books from the library and reading 2 or 3 at a time until I had read my way through summer. Fantastic!

Yes! love this

Ahhhh…. (That was my huge sign of contentment.) That looks like an amazing summer and, oh, that boy with his s’more-loving face. Too much cuteness.
