last-minute gift ideas for her

Time flies, and that seems especially true during the month of December. There are just 10 days ’til Christmas! If you still have gifts to buy, consider these last-minute gifts.

Beautiful books

Puffin in Bloom is a series of classic books with swoon-worthy covers. They’re considered children’s books but these are some of my favorites, so they’d be wonderful gifts for girls from pre-teens to grandmothers. For example: Little Women; Anne of Green Gables; or A Little Princess. Aren’t they pretty?! Many other titles are available so look your book lover’s favorites.

pretty book covers

A certain teen girl in my house requested this one: all four complete books in the Giver series bound together as one beautiful silver and red volume: The Giver Quartet Omnibus.

Give a Christmas keepsake your bibliophile will return to year after year, like The Nutcracker, or this lovely collection of Christmas Stories by Louisa May Alcott; both are part of the Penguin Christmas Classics series.

Quiet-time gifts

I bought the Women’s Sanctuary Devotional Bible NLT for myself recently and I’m enjoying it. Not too big, not too small. Lovely devotions but the arrangement of them is subtle enough not to distract me from regular reading — something I have a problem with in many Bibles. I really like the NLT translation, too.

For journaling, I like these FriXion erasable gel pens (erasable!), or these Zebra ballpoint pens. I’ve found oodles of pretty journals at TJ Maxx, but you could also order something like this leatherbound journal.

A candle is a thoughtful addition to a quiet time gift. Again, TJ Maxx is a great place to find these, but Walmart, Target and other local stores have quite a variety as well. Personally, I never get around to lighting a candle, but I do require a cup of tea! My favorite online tea shop is Adagio (and their shipping is usually quick), but if you’d rather buy in person, I recommend Trader Joe’s bagged teas (try the Candy Cane Green tea) or Harney & Sons, which are available at Target and at Barnes & Noble bookstores.

Creative/artsy gifts

Give her an art journaling how-to book and add in a gift certificate to art supply store; she’ll be set to get her creative juices flowing.

Dover Art coloring books aren’t just for kids; I really like them myself when I feel like making something pretty without a great deal of effort. Try Birds to Paint or Color or America the Beautiful.

For a completely different sort of creativity, give her a book to inspire artistry in the kitchen, like this Cookie Craft book, plus a set of cute cookie cutters.

**Remember, with Amazon Prime you get free two-day shipping for most items. I have loooooved my Prime membership. It would make a fabulous gift, too!
