Getting ready for the Baby!
During one of our lunch chats, Diane mentioned that she was already starting to buy a pack of diapers every time she went grocery shopping so it wouldn’t be such a big expense once the baby comes. So we took advantage of the new annual membership that BJ’s Wholesale Club sent my way, to help her stock up on a few things. BJ’s is so convenient, and they have some of the very best deals on top brands.
Diapers and strollers and outfits, oh my!
We stocked up on diapers and wipes. Before we know it, we’ll be wrapping baby’s itty bitty bum in these Pampers Swaddlers. We opted for just one box of newborn size, because Brandon was a big baby (10 pounds!) so they’re likely to have a somewhat big baby, too. But we bought a gigantic box of Pampers Sensitive wipes.
Brandon didn’t want to miss the fun, so he came, too! He said this Pack-n-Play we saw was a good deal, so we might come back to get it later.
Look at how he drives that stroller. This guy is going to be a great daddy.
Some of the other grandparents started buying baby things as soon as Brandon and Diane shared their news, but the practical gal in me wanted to wait until I knew what they’d need. Diane recently had an ultrasound to determine the gender of the baby and it looks like a BOY!
I couldn’t resist buying a couple of baby outfits. Seriously, y’all: the cuteness. Earlier in the week, Diane saw some cute baby outfits but refrained from buying them because they were priced too high; I bought one of the same outfits at BJ’s for a great price!
1st purchase for my 1st grandbaby!
My first purchase for my first grandbaby was practical, but a whole lot of fun! Yep, that’s a whale on the striped shirt; I’ve warned Diane I’ll be brainwashing the kid into loving the ocean from infancy. 😉
There’s an extra reason we like this particular brand of baby clothes. Look closely and you might get a clue what his name will be. {ahem: look at the tag}
BJ’s has a variety of brands we use and trust (like Pantene, Bounty, Charmin, and more) but the prices make it worthwhile to try new things sometimes, too. I stocked up on shampoo for all the kids, a few healthy snacks, toilet paper, and even bought a whole pineapple just because it’s fun and I know the kids will get a kick out of it.

We are awaiting baby number 6, but our first purchase is always to start stocking up on diapers!
The (practical) first purchase would be the diapers! Christian and I received the advice to buy a pack a diapers every paycheck we got to have a stockpile by the time baby Caleb was here! Just a little tip….those Pampers Swaddlers size newborn fit for about 2 days before you need the size up! Size 1 is what they give you in the hospital and because they are larger they don’t leak! I bought a beautiful carved wooden high chair at an antique place when pregnant with my first. Had no idea how hard it would be to scrub food out of those little crevices!!
I think I’d start with cloth diapers and the cool new diaper wraps they have. Cloth diapers have come a LONG way since I had my girls! The new wraps are adorable, washable, and adjustable. That suits the practical mommy in me. Cloth diapers are more expensive initially, but long term they can save a bundle. Disposables are good for church or baby sitters or day care when required, but I’m a big fan of cloth.
My first purchase was a changing table for his bedroom.

The day after my positive pregnancy test for Hannah my mom came over and we went shopping : ) We had waited so long for her and now we weren’t wasting any time buying cute things! Our first stop was the kid’s consignment shop in town – where we mostly bought girl clothes, not being able to resist the adorableness (having NO idea whether it would actually BE a girl) ……. we saved the receipts just in case.
The first thing I bought for my new little guy was an outfit with puppy dogs on it. His big sister said the ultrasound picture looked like a puppy dog, and the nickname stuck!
We’re currently expecting our 5th, but with our first, my first purchase was BumGenius cloth diapers. I couldn’t WAIT to get my hands on those! After that I think it was a car seat.

Greetings Jamie, The first thing we bought when we found out we were pregnant, was a baby Bible, and a Treasure Book to help us record the entire pregnancy and birth. The coolest thing I’ve ever seen because there was space for pictures, thoughts, demographics, family tree, small envelopes to collect baby’s umbilical cord (little stump), baby’s lock of hair from first haircut, and so much more. I believe it was either an outfit with foxes on it (Fantastic Mr. Fox, ya know) or a stuffed badger from Ikea…wonderfully soft.
I haven’t bought anything myself yet (and I’m more than fourteen weeks along already!), but other people have. We have a onesie, socks, and a book already. 🙂 I’m not sure what I’ll buy first… maybe diapers, but probably a cute outfit once we know the gender! 🙂

A children’s Bible.
We just had our third son. The first thing was his very own Bible…… Second thing was to have someone make him a blanket. Each one of my boys has a handmade blanket and I wanted to make sure this little guy had the same.
